“I discovered in nature the non utilitarian delights that I sought in art.
Both were a form of magic, both were games of intricate enchantment and deception”
Vladimir Nabokov
Tamarin Makarov, the contemporary artist based in Tel Aviv, combines photography and ceramics in her artworks using unique methods such as Decals and Gum Print to merge the image into the piece of ceramics. Tamarin has developed and refined an artistic technic - Gum Print - to get an incredibly sharp image made of metallic materials on wet clay, seamlessly merging the image into the ceramic piece.
The artist inhabits functional pottery with images of the microscopic universe of insects, tree fragments, and leaves inspired by the rich and living nature of Galilee, where she was raised.
The series “Insects” is an astonishing adventure in the world “under our feet.” Tamarin allows bugs to go around the endless circle of the white plate, and a little Centipede rests among the curves of a vessel.
Nature has its own fascinating life in Tamarin's art, giving gentle care for these little, fragile, and breathtakingly beautiful creatures. The artist observes and portrays not only its physical characteristics but also the combination of intricate details and peculiar behaviors that create a truly unique aesthetic experience.
A photographic image in Tamarin’s artworks deals with three-dimensional exposure: the image figures on curves of round shapes of the sculptural composition.
Tamarin Makarov participated in several exhibitions, such as a solo exhibition at Benyamini Contemporary Ceramic Center, Tel Aviv (2021), a group exhibition at Beit Hagefen, Haifa (2020), and the 8th Israel Biennale of Ceramic Art (2016).
